Youth Policy
Habitat is about helping families, so children are an important part of our outreach. However, a construction site can be a dangerous place for youngsters. Our liability insurance carrier specifies that no person under the age of 16 can be on the build site while construction is under way. However, children under 16 can be present on-site on days when only painting, landscaping or ceremonies are scheduled.
For everyone's safety we ask that volunteers with young children make arrangements for child care as we have no facilities near the job site.
Youth age 12-17 are welcome to volunteer when accompanied by a parent or guardian. All volunteers under the age of consent must provide a special waiver before entering a work zone.
Youth groups are especially invited to participate in Habitat projects. If your group would like to learn valuable construction skills while helping their community, please contact Lisa D. Ellis for more information.
